CSA Newsletter - Spring Week 1

Hello Dear CSA Members! We are so excited to meet so many new faces and to reunite with old ones this Spring!

🚨YOUR FIRST PICKUP FOR SPRING 2021 CSA MEMBERS IS APRIL 1st and 2nd AS SCHEDULED.🚨

Did you know that this week is Passover for the Camire family? Yes indeed, our family will be taking the entire week to celebrate Passover and as such we will not be sending out a

newsletter (and some communication

will be limited, see below).

THIS will serve as your newsletter for the first week: CSA Program Details

If you have not reviewed the CSA Program Details, above, please do so. There are time changes, program changes and updates. Have you watched the pre-season video? If not, please do so by clicking here.

📢Also, please be aware that although we will have access to e-mail, we will be limiting all communication and work-hours for the week. We ask for your patience if we delay in returning any non-urgent communication. Thank you!📢

Please also notate that the newsletter will restart the following week and we will resume all programs. That means we will also not be sending out a bag-packing list this week either.

Your harvest for this week will be very exciting. It looks like a wonderful first week's share and it should be fairly abundant to boot!

Remember, traditional CSA members will received a pre-packed bag with a mixture of the following items. The market-style CSA members will get to choose from the following items.

This Week's Harvest

As always, nothing is guaranteed. These are the items that are "in season" and are anticipated to be ready this week (which may or may not be available at the CSA):

  • Small = 4-6 items per week

  • Medium = 7-9 items per week

  • Large = 10-12 items per week

  1. Radishes - Only the best tasting and incredibly beautiful radishes ever! Roasting. Hands down is the best way to eat these! I literally cannot get enough of these roasted radishes 😋!

  2. Tatsoi - So good, so good, soooooo good!! These flowers and greens are incredible. The bottom of the stems get a little tough, but the whole thing is edible and just down-right delicious! Great for for stews, sandwiches, salads and more. CHECK OUT THIS ARTICLE TO LEARN MORE.

  3. Red Fire Lettuce - A gorgeous red lettuce that is spectacular in sandwiches or as a salad or a bed for other veggies.

  4. Cilantro - What a way to bring summer to your winter dish! Fresh aromatic cilantro is such a delight in the middle of winter!

  5. Claytonia - Claytonia is another one of those amazing specialty greens that are ONLY available in the winter and it is super-delicious! Here is an article on this fabulous green.

  6. Red Russian Kale- This is a baby kale that has a beautiful red and green color to it which is fantastic in salads. Here is a very simple recipe to try.

  7. Arugula- Our arugula is something special! Unlike anything you will find in the store, our heirloom varieties grown in nutrient-dense soil has got to be the best tasting we have ever had! Here are some ideas on how to use arugula.

  8. Spinach - You haven't lived until you have tried our spinach. Full stop 😂😂.

  9. Claytonia - Have you ever had this magical green? O.M.G! One of the most spectacular of all the winter veggies, you are blessed it stayed all the way to the spring - one upside to such a cold season! Check out this article, it may become your new fav!

  10. Radish Microgreens - Next to the barley grass and the sunshoots, radish microgreens are some of the most nutritiously-dense items we grow on the farm and not only that, but during our annual survey last year, they ranked as the #1 most requested and love item we grow! They have a fantastic bite to them, last considerably long in the refrigerator and are beautiful in appearance.

  11. Broccoli MIcrogreens - Last week we told you that Radish Microgreens were the #1 most loved item we grow, well, these microgreens weren't on the list then! I have a sneaking suspicion that these microgreens are the real winners😄!

  12. Sunshoots - Our sunshoots are certainly some of the nicest, most high-quality sunshoots you will ever find (that actually goes for all our microgreens). They are one of the most beloved items we grow as well and a regular staple to our CSA. Here are some ideas to use your sunnies this week: https://www.martinsgardenacf.com/sunflower-shoots-recipes

Is that it? I think so! We may have missed an item or two, and you never know what the harvest will actually look like in the end, but that should be the most of it! Have a great week!

That's it for this week! We love you to pieces, are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you and we are blessed to the core to be YOUR farmers!!
