SUMMARY: EIGHTH Week of FALL 2020! - EXTRA VEGGIES! - ANNOUNCEMENTS - NURSERY SPOTLIGHT- ACI DONATION UPDATE AND DONATE TODAY! - DID YOU KNOW? - LOCATIONS AND TIMES - WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEK - WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT WEEK
Week 8 - The EIGHTH Week of FALL CSA 2020!
HELLO DEAR CSA MEMBERS! Well, it can't be good news ALL the time, or can it?😋("Gam tzu L'tovah"!, right? This too is for the best!) It all depends on your perspective😄!
As many of you know by now, we had a disaster on the farm this weekend! The wind was so bad this weekend that we actually lost one whole greenhouse! (Check out the video to the right). The greenhouse got torn apart by the wind and will need to be replaced. The boys and I went out there Saturday night and did what we could to protect the crops still in the ground and thankfully most of them survived. So we had the whole team come out on Sunday with a bunch of volunteers and we cropped out the entire greenhouse of everything that survived and it's going in your share this week. Unfortunately, it wasn't planned to be harvested for a few weeks, oh well😀.
We still haven't contacted the insurance, but the house was insured and we should be able to get it replaced without a problem🙏. That's life and that's farming in Colorado! Anyway, it turned out to be a great day with loads of beautiful faces working hard as a community to get the job done! Thank you to all who came out and supported your local community! We all are grateful 💚.
So, this week's share, though still beautiful, it may be a little "odd" compared to most shares. Expect almost every share to get lettuce, scallions, daikon radishes, carrots, sunshoots and swiss chard. We will also have something really special this week: Chard Root! Yes, you read that right. Chard root is a really neat vegetable that we tried to provide last year, but since it got overwintered, it didn't turn out right. This year we have some beautiful roots to provide (and we'd love your feedback on this mysterious beet cousin). Similar to celeriac in texture and preparation, it's taste is similar to beets without the same amount of sweetness. Preparation requires a longer cooking time than beets and we like to add sweetness to the root, like honey or maple syrup. They have an earthy flavor with a great texture. We'd LOVE to hear what you come up with and hear your thoughts!
See below for what's coming in your bags this week, and more updates!
Enjoy your share this week and don't forget to join the fun and share your recipes and pictures in the Facebook Community Group!

__________________________________ What to expect THIS week:
As always, nothing is guaranteed. These are the items that are "in season" and are anticipated to be ready this week (which may or may not be available at the CSA):
Small = 4-6 items per week
Medium = 7-9 items per week
Large = 10-12 items per week
Head Lettuce - We have lot's of beautiful red and green heads coming.
Salad Mix - More lettuce, but in a different form! 😄Yes, there is a lot of lettuce this week due to the loss of the greenhouse, but at least it's a different kind! This salad mix is soft and fluffy. Great for a salad base or bed for a hot meal like rice or quinoa. Wonderful and absolutely stunning in color this week!
Rainbow Carrots - You really can't go wrong with carrots, but OH-MY-GOSH these carrots are gorgeous!
Chard Root- See the introduction of this e-mail for more info on this crop. We hope you like it. Please give us feedback!
Swiss Chard - One of our favorite greens! We love swiss chard especially saute'd or used in soups and stews. It can also be enjoyed as "lettuce" wraps!
Scallions- They didn't fair too well out in the cold 8 degrees after that greenhouse got destroyed, but they still look "ok" and they taste perfect! In fact, they have a hint of sweetness to them.
Daikon Radishes - These purple "Bravo" daikon radishes are amazing! Perfect uniformity and the taste is perfect for daikons. We grew these for the first time this summer and the feedback was so exciting that we had to do them again! Here is 10 quick and easy ways to enjoy them.
Radish Microgreens - The spicy variety of microgreens that we will be offering this week and also one of the most beloved. It was one of the top five items we provided this year. All members should get some this week.
Sunshoots - Our sunshoots are certainly some of the nicest, most high-quality sunshoots you will ever find (that actually goes for all our microgreens). They are one of the most beloved items we grow as well and a regular staple to our CSA. Here are some ideas to use your sunnies this week: https://www.martinsgardenacf.com/sunflower-shoots-recipes
Broccoli Microgreens- These sure have been a favorite of many of our CSA members this year! We are so happy this is the case. This week, we will try to get them to all the members, but it all depends on yield.
Is that it? It's a lot, but I think so! I may be missing something...who knows, you might be surprised with something else too!
That's it for this week! We love you to pieces, are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you and we are blessed to the core to be YOUR farmers!! Yosef, Havah, Kids and Team The Camire Family
