Weekly CSA Newsletter Dec. 7th, 2020

SUMMARY: ELEVENTH Week of FALL 2020! - EXTRA VEGGIES! - ANNOUNCEMENTS - NURSERY SPOTLIGHT- ACI DONATION UPDATE AND DONATE TODAY! - DID YOU KNOW? - LOCATIONS AND TIMES - WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEK - WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT WEEK

Week 11 - The ELEVENTH Week of FALL CSA 2020!

HELLO DEAR CSA MEMBERS! I don't know about you, but we are looking forward to a BEAUTIFUL week with gorgeous weather! The farm is operating smoothly and the team is rocking it. The Nursery Grand Opening was amazing (more on that below) and we only have 3 more weeks left!😮

Yes, that's right, we only have 3 more weeks left and then we are closing the farm down completely for 5 full weeks - oh my gosh we are excited! We need the break and we are certainly looking forward to it. We will still be operating, but it will be way scaled back. All employees will be taking two weeks off and our family will take a 3 week "staycation" where we will be locking the computers in the safe for the entire time! To say we are excited would be an understatement.

Ok, back to your shares. Three weeks are left and we anticipate the greatest Fall finish we have ever had! As a reminder, fall finishes smaller than it starts, but considering that, they should still be gorgeous. We have fennel, carrots, beets, radishes, scallions, lettuce, spinach, pak choy, onions, celeriac, kale, swiss chard and a whole bunch more to be harvested over the next three weeks - it's going to be great!

See below for what's coming in your bags this week, and more updates!

Enjoy your share this week and don't forget to join the fun and share your recipes and pictures in the Facebook Community Group

Ahavah Community Initiative SPOTLIGHT

We all know how terrible this year has been and we all know someone who is struggling more today than they did just six months ago. Things are getting worse, and we all know it. Many thousands of people in our area are struggling to find nutritious food to feed their families. Yes, there are food pantries and soup kitchens, but this is not enough. We believe that the best way to help families directly is to give them free CSA memberships so they can get the purest, most responsibly grown produce they can - full of nutrients and freshly harvested, unlike many of the other free-food programs that exist. We are asking for donations as we need your help and our community needs your help.

Please consider making a year-end tax-deductible gift to Ahavah Community Initiative and be sure that your money is going directly to an amazing cause and making a big impact!

Since 2018 We Have...

  • Donated 154 CSA memberships to families in need! - A value of $53,900.00 of free food!

  • Facilitated the donation of 42 Double Up Food Buck Grants valued at $15,750.00 of free food!Taught 31 full-length classes on regenerative and biological agriculture.

  • Attended 48 outreach events to spread regenerative agriculture education to our community including school events, speaking engagements and markets.

  • Have provided 27 educational tours.

  • Hosted 4 large public events.

  • Educated 5 regenerative farming interns.

  • In addition, Ahavah Farm (aside from ACI) has donated an additional $56,750.00 worth of free food to numerous outlets and families in our local community

  • We have paid ZERO dollars to salaries or to "other" overhead.

Interested in making a tax-free donation? Ahavah Community Initiative is registered as a 501c3 with the State of Colorado as a non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible.

Want to get involved with either ACI or as a volunteer on the farm? E-mail us to let us know. We are always looking for volunteers and we would love for you to join the party!

__________________________________ What to expect THIS week:

As always, nothing is guaranteed.  These are the items that are "in season" and are anticipated to be ready this week (which may or may not be available at the CSA):

  • Small = 4-6 items per week

  • Medium = 7-9 items per week

  • Large  = 10-12 items per week

  1. Lettuce - We have lot's of beautiful red and green leaf lettuce coming your way.

  2. Carrots - Big, beautiful and tasty carrots. What else can we say? Oh, I know! Don't forget to eat those greens! Turn them into pesto or something - they are great and have 600% MORE vitamin C than the carrots themselves 😮!

  3. Beets - These are Detroit Dark Red beets and they, along with their greens, are absolutely delicious! Here are 5 easy ways to prepare beets: https://www.justbeetit.com/beet-blog-index/how-to-cook-and-prepare-beets

  4. Scallions - The variety we chose for scallions this year is not my favorite, but hey, they are scallions, way beyond-organic and absolutely fresh, so there's always that to celebrate!

  5. Swiss Chard -The leaves on this swiss chard in the winter come out so beautifully and waxy! Gorgeous leaves are perfect for wraps and there oh so many wonderful ways to enjoy. Here is a great article on all you need to know about this amazing vegetable: https://triedandsupplied.com/saucydressings/how-to-cook-chard/

  6. Fennel Herb - Oh, what fun! Dried and jarred fennel! What a wonderful addition to season potatoes, stews, meat and roasted veggies. We love dried fennel on pasta for a delicious kick of flavor. Enjoy!😍

  7. Pak Choy - One of our absolutely most requested and favorited greens is pak choy! It is the best in a stir fry!

  8. Sunflower Shoots - The single most nutritious item we grow! Not only that, but they are also one of the top 3 items we provide for your CSA. Enjoy them raw for the best benefit.

  9. Pea Shoots - Another deeply nutritious item is our pea shoots and if you love peas, you will love these. We absolutely love pea shoots, mostly as a topper or ask a raw snack. We also are fond of adding them to stews and creamy soups.

  10. Is that it?  It's a lot, but I think so!  I may be missing something...who knows, you might be surprised with something else too!

That's it for this week! We love you to pieces, are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you and we are blessed to the core to be YOUR farmers!! Yosef, Havah, Kids and Team The Camire Family
