HELLO DEAR CSA MEMBERS! Happy Chanukah! Our family has really been enjoying our holiday and for those of you celebrating: Chag Chanukah Sameach!

So Chanukah is going great and we still have 3 more nights left. It's been a real joy to celebrate and finish this terrible 2020 year with light and goodness, but boy oh boy, the weather has been killer!

The weather simply hasn't given us any breaks lately! This weather is terrible😣! High winds, sub-zero temperatures, frozen water, frozen crops...geesh, it definitely is not the funnest time in the world and the team has stayed late for three weeks in a row - but hey, that's life and at least we all have a weekly paycheck and we know that our late nights and sacrifice is for the good of our community!

OK, that's enough whining for one e-mail 😄!

This week should be another gorgeous share full of beautiful veggies (as always!🤩). We have celeriac, beets (a little pest damaged, but still beautiful), radishes, leeks and so much more. Check it all out, below!

See below for what's coming in your bags this week, and more updates!

Enjoy your share this week and don't forget to join the fun and share your recipes and pictures in the Facebook Community Group

Ahavah Community Initiative SPOTLIGHT

We all know how terrible this year has been and we all know someone who is struggling more today than they did just six months ago. Things are getting worse, and we all know it. Many thousands of people in our area are struggling to find nutritious food to feed their families. Yes, there are food pantries and soup kitchens, but this is not enough. We believe that the best way to help families directly is to give them free CSA memberships so they can get the purest, most responsibly grown produce they can - full of nutrients and freshly harvested, unlike many of the other free-food programs that exist. We are asking for donations as we need your help and our community needs your help.

Please consider making a year-end tax-deductible gift to Ahavah Community Initiative and be sure that your money is going directly to an amazing cause and making a big impact!

Since 2018 We Have...

  • Donated 154 CSA memberships to families in need! - A value of $53,900.00 of free food!

  • Facilitated the donation of 42 Double Up Food Buck Grants valued at $15,750.00 of free food!Taught 31 full-length classes on regenerative and biological agriculture.

  • Attended 48 outreach events to spread regenerative agriculture education to our community including school events, speaking engagements and markets.

  • Have provided 27 educational tours.

  • Hosted 4 large public events.

  • Educated 5 regenerative farming interns.

  • In addition, Ahavah Farm (aside from ACI) has donated an additional $56,750.00 worth of free food to numerous outlets and families in our local community

  • We have paid ZERO dollars to salaries or to "other" overhead.

Interested in making a tax-free donation? Ahavah Community Initiative is registered as a 501c3 with the State of Colorado as a non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible.

Want to get involved with either ACI or as a volunteer on the farm? E-mail us to let us know. We are always looking for volunteers and we would love for you to join the party!

NURSERY NEWS

The Nursery is coming along wonderfully! We have already started many of our seedlings for Spring 2021 and we are preparing plans to open a physical greenhouse location here on the farm - fully outfitted with soil, pots, tools, seedlings and more. Lorin and Tess have been working really hard and we are all very, very excited!

We are looking for a Nursery Volunteer (or two). If you have a passion for plants and want to get your hands dirty, Lorin would love to have you around! We are seeking a volunteer interested in helping out the Nursery crew for 5 hours a week. If you are interested, nursery volunteers will also get you a free Microgreen CSA ($35.00 value per week). Volunteers also get a free T-shirt and free seedlings for your home or garden!

__________________________________ What to expect THIS week:

As always, nothing is guaranteed.  These are the items that are "in season" and are anticipated to be ready this week (which may or may not be available at the CSA):

  • Small = 4-6 items per week

  • Medium = 7-9 items per week

  • Large  = 10-12 items per week

  1. Lettuce - Beautiful red and green leaf lettuce coming your way.

  2. Carrots - Big, beautiful and tasty carrots. What else can we say? Oh, I know! Don't forget to eat those greens! Turn them into pesto or something - they are great and have 600% MORE vitamin C than the carrots themselves 😮!

  3. Radishes - Only the best tasting and incredibly beautiful radishes ever! Roasting. Hands down is the best way to eat these! I literally cannot get enough of these roasted radishes 😋!

  4. Beets - These are Detroit Dark Red beets and they, along with their greens, are absolutely delicious! Here are 5 easy ways to prepare beets: https://www.justbeetit.com/beet-blog-index/how-to-cook-and-prepare-beets

  5. Leeks - Sorry everyone, but these leeks are the absolute best leeks E-V-E-R! We don't cut off the greens either because those greens are amazing! Don't waste 'em!

  6. Celeriac- It's back again this week and looking as beautiful as ever. Remember, this hasn't been the best crop we were hoping for, but for a first time growing it we didn't do so bad! 😄 Here is a good article that appears to have some really yummy recipes - 17 of the best celeriac recipes.

  7. Kale Tops! - This was so much fun last week we will be doing it for the next two - plus it really helps with the harvest 😀!

8. Sunflower Shoots - The single most nutritious item we grow! Not only that, but they are also one of the top 3 items we provide for your CSA. Enjoy them raw for the best benefit.

9. Radish microgreens - A nice spicy bite to top a salad or cooked dish, pasta, soup or stew - they can also be enjoyed raw. Huge nutrient profile with incredible cardiovascular benefits.

Is that it?  I think so!  I may be missing something...who knows, you might be surprised with something else too!

That's it for this week! We love you to pieces, are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you and we are blessed to the core to be YOUR farmers!! Yosef, Havah, Kids and Team The Camire Family
