Farm Update

Winter 2024- Week 6

😀WOW! Despite this terrible weather, our CSA Veggie-shares this week are OFF-THE-HOOK and simply AMAZING! It's hard to believe that Winter veggies, out of Peyton, CO can be THIS abundant at this time of year - WITHOUT HEAT! If they look this good now, imagine what SUMMER ☀️will look like!

Well, as it is, this week's weather is capital "T" Terrible! I am sure it isn't much better where you are, but it is no fun out here at the farm this week with so much yucky weather! It makes the harvest difficult, it makes field work impossible and of course, there are the deliveries that obviously needed to be rescheduled which not only throws all the members off course, but to adjust the farm in such a manner and get all the deliveries out on Sunday is nearly an impossible task. Thankfully we have the most amazing team in the world and are gonna get it done! We are sorry for the inconvenience, but thankful for your understanding and flexibility. We love you all so much! Enjoy your beautiful shares this week and we look forward to getting back to it next week! (hopefully we won't be too far behind😓!)

PS. Due to the craziness around these parts, there won't be any new articles this week. Our newsletter will return next week (we hope!😁)!

ATTENTION COMMUNITY!

Dear Ahavah Community,

As you know, we aim to be community-centered and driven to support and love our community, YOU, in any and all unbiased ways that we can.  One of the most important ways that we strive to support our community is through the facilitation of Ahavah Community Initiative (501c3) and the donated food that so many individuals (many whom are reading this now) rely on.

Since 2018 we have donated over 7,500 bags of freshly harvested vegetables to local families in need and this Winter season alone there are over 50 families who will have received over 400 bags of these vegetables!  That’s right, nearly 25% of our members are families who receive FREE memberships of these weekly vegetables!  These are families that have been suffering with severe illnesses, are poverty stricken through various means and are struggling to feed their families healthy foods.

As you stand in line for your CSA, or rub elbows with those at our stand, you should know that one of every four of those vey individuals are receiving a donated share.  These are people with real needs and real struggles, families whom we all love and cherish and people we absolutely must continue to support.

With that said, the Spring season is upon us and our funds are running very low.  With over 80 applications at the tie of this writing, we are absolutely petrified that we won’t have the opportunity to support them all, and we don’t know how to say no to so many dire individuals and families, nor should we have to – but we can’t do it without you!

Although the Bring-a-Buck campaign has helped tremendously this year and so many have continued to support your neighbors and friends in our community in other ways, we are pleading with you to help us support these families who need fresh, healing vegetables with your additional donations this coming season.

If you have any ability to help, we are simply begging all of our community to pull together and donate.  If every one of our members donated $25.00, this would supply all the funds required to support these members for the Spring season.

Please, from the bottom of our hearts to yours, PLEASE HELP support your community by considering an additional donation of $25.00 to help support a local family in need!

Ahavah Community Initiative is the most important part of Ahavah Farm!

We are dedicated to providing and getting nourishing foods to the people who need it the most!

The need for healthy and pure food is higher than ever!

💡DON'T FORGET💡

This Week's Harvest

  • Small = 4-6 items per week ($25/wk)

  • Medium = 7-9 items per week ($35/wk)

  • Large = 10-12 items per week ($45/wk)

  1. Lettuce - Beautiful lettuce! We have gorgeous head lettuce and lettuce mixes! Great for everything from salads to sandwiches and lettuce wraps

  2. Mustard greens- Add these leafy greens to your diet by mixing mustard greens into a chopped salad or cook it like most leafy greens. The greens are high in Vitamin A, Vitamin K, B1, B2, B6, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E

  3. Radishes- Radishes are most often served raw, halved and sprinkled with salt, shaved into salads, layered over butter-smeared baguettes, or shredded into slaws. They also can be marinated with olive oil and lemon and mint for a refreshing salad, and they can be pickled with a classic vinegar-sugar-salt mix.

  4. Chives- Since chives have a milder flavor, they're perfect to add to soups, dips, mashed or baked potatoes, fish, seafood dishes and omelets. Heat destroys their delicate flavor, so add chives to dishes at the last minute. To maximize their taste, thinly slice, chop or snip with kitchen shears before using.

  5. Turnips & Beautiful Turnip Greens - the turnips were a little small this week, but that just means that they are sweeter! But the greens...those greens are so beautiful and so tasty! Buttery and LOADED with nutrition, we love to sauté these amazing greens and eat them alone with some garlic and onion or add them to eggs or a stew. The flavor isn't just amazing, the calcium bioavailability is beyond any other food on earth😲!

  6. Carrots- The best carrots around! You will be amazed by how much flavor our carrots pack. Many of our members have commented that they cannot go back to store-bought after tasting our pure, beyond organic carrots!

  7. Barley Wheat Grass - Many of our members absolutely love our barley grass and use it religiously. We hope you take the time to learn and enjoy this most amazingly nutritious green! More nutritious than wheat grass and less bitter, barley grass is used mostly for juicing. However, I, Yosef (and many of our team members) love to use it as an energy and nutrition

  8. Radish Microgreens - Next to the barley grass and the sunshoots, radish microgreens are some of the most nutritiously-dense items we grow on the farm and not only that, but during our annual survey last year, they ranked as the #1 most requested and love item we grow! They have a fantastic bite to them, last considerably long in the refrigerator and are beautiful in appearance.

  9. Pea Shoots - One of the most desired and sought after items we provide are these pea shoots! Quite literally the best you added to any dish or salad. Our favorite way is to add them to stews and soups. A perfect topper too! Here are four fun ways to use Pea Shoots: http://blog.bostonorganics.com/4-fun-ways-to-use-pea-shoots

  10. Broccoli Microgreens - Last week we told you that Radish Microgreens were the #1 most loved item we grow, well, these microgreens weren't on the list then! I have a sneaking suspicion that these microgreens are the real winners!

  11. Sunshoots - Our sunshoots are certainly some of the nicest, most high-quality sunshoots you will ever find (that actually goes for all our microgreens). They are one of the most beloved items we grow as well and a regular staple to our CSA. Here are some ideas to use your sunnies this week: https://www.martinsgardenacf.com/sunflower-shoots-recipes
