👉Our community truly is a faRmily ❤️. Here is Mr. Brian Gatz, an amazing member of our faRmily, holding one of our dear-ones, Nedirah at the market. Markets are so much fun!!

👈Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Cucumbers are here and so are the tomatoes! it should only be a few more weeks before they start showing up in your CSA shares and at the booths for sales!

👇The beets are so beautiful this week! here is Ms. Katie being shocked by the sheer size of them! Oh, perhaps there was a little silliness there, but they are still shocking for sure! 😄

Weekly Farmer's Market Update

Ahavah Farmer's Market is Every Friday from 9a - 12p

This week's farmer's market at the farm was an absolute blast!

This week we had the bounce-house out for the kids, we also had a splash pad to keep everyone cool, we had live music, of course our

playground was packed and we had some new vendors!

We also had a composting 101 class taking place with local farmer and former intern of Ahavah Farm, Mark Robinson. The class was an absolute success, and the participant feedback was raving!

Asher held a planter-box building class too! This was a TON of fun as there were 14 kids who showed up to take the class! The kids built a planter box stained with organic, whey-based stain and the boxes were planted with basil, thyme, chamomile and lemonbalm.

The market is just getting better and better every week and meeting our neighbors has been such an incredible blessing! do us a favor, when you come, say hi and introduce yourselves, we are so excited to meet you!!!

We Love Our Community!❤️

📢More and More Vendors Every Week!📢

👉If you are a local vendor and are interested in attending our FREE farmer's market, please reach out directly at contact@ahavahfarm.com and we will send you information and the vendor agreement.

📢DID YOU KNOW? 📢

The Ahavah Community Cookbook

Did you know that microgreens have been found to be up to 40× more nutritious than mature-leaf vegetables? For instance, one ounce of our microgreen mix is nearly nutritionally equivalent to 3lbs of broccoli!

Crazy, I know. But that's not the ONLY thing that microgreens are good for. Microgreens taste incredible, and there's a reason for that too - the nutrition! Did you know that the higher the nutritional content of a vegetable, the higher the sugar content and therefore the greater the flavor also? Of course you knew this because you read all the "Did-You-Know" sections and you've learned this in-depth already😉! You should also know this, like, totally automatically, because the flavor of Ahavah Farm veggies tastes so great - duh, that's why our carrots are so yummy!! It's because they have higher nutrition and thus have a higher sugar content!

So back to the amazing microgreens...

As a CSA member, you will have the opportunity to experience almost every microgreen we grow as we try to grow all varieties and provide them every week as part of the Market-Style membership. You'll notice that our microgreens last 2x to 3x longer than the ones you buy in the store. That's because they are super-fresh which means that their nutritional content is even higher. However, they won't last as long as mature vegetables. Eat them quick, within 3 days of receiving them to get the best benefit.

As a tip: As a CSA member, your microgreen servings are 2x what they are in the store, they are fresher and better than any other microgreens you will find - we guarantee it. the value of each "serving" is anywhere from $7 to $13, so they shouldn't be missed at the CSA pickups - we HIGHLY recommend them as a big benefit of being an Ahavah Farm CSA member, as it's something you won't find in many other CSA's across the country.

Enjoy them all: Sunflower, Pea, Radish, Broccoli, Barley Grass, Kohlrabi, Cabbage and a few others like basil and dill, cilantro and kale.

Taking Applications: ACI BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEMBER OPENING

ACI currently has a few board openings and we are taking applications until vacant positions are filled. If you are interested in being considered as a member of our board we would love to hear from you!

All board appointments are two year commitments with monthly board meetings, events and official activities requiring board presence. We anticipate that all board members provide a personal, anonymous, donation to ACI as well as be an active participant in serving our community.

AHAVAH COMMUNITY INITIATIVE BRING-A-BUCK!

"Hi, nice to see you! Did you bring your buck today!?"

These are the words you should hear every week when you show up at the CSA locations to get your veggies.

That's because, supporting families in need through ACI, is the MOST IMPORTANT and BEST part of being a CSA member with Ahavah Farm! Don't say your $1 isn't important! IT IS!! The Bring-A-Buck program is how ACI has sustained its food donations, so we thank you members! - EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS!

Meet YOUR Community!

Interview #10 With Rabbi Eddie Shapiro

Here is a special treat, an interview with one of my favorite people in the world, and one of the farm's as well, Rabbi Eddie Shapiro. Rabbi has been with us since the beginning of this farm, he's part of the mission of growing the food, but more importantly, he is a blessing to our family and our farm staff. If the farm had a "Rabbi," he'd be it! Enjoy the interview and say hi to Rabbi the next time you see him hanging around the farm or up in Denver at the JCC CSA pickup!

This Week's Harvest

As always, nothing is guaranteed. These are the items that are "in season" and are anticipated to be ready this week (which may or may not be available at the CSA).

  • Small = 4-6 items per week

  • Medium = 7-9 items per week

  • Large = 10-12 items per week

  1. Radishes - Beautiful red radishes this week. Not too spicy with a bit of sweetness. Roasted radishes are my absolute favorite!

  2. Redbor Kale and Darkibor Kale - Some of the most amazing kale you have ever seen or tasted! Taste is NOTHING like in the store - those that know, know! Try some this week, massage is real good, follow one of THESE recipes and let your tastebuds have a party!

  3. Cilantro - Who doesn't love cilantro!? Well, it turns out, up to 14% of people have a unique gene that makes cilantro taste like soap! It's true, check it out here. If that's not you, check out this page for some ideas: CLICK HERE

  4. Scallions - Who doesn't love scallions!? Did you know that if you leave the roots on and stick it in a glass of water the scallions will re-grow for a second cut!? It's true - try it!

  5. Celeriac Greens - Similar to celery, but more bitter. Celeriac is great in stews and in cooked dishes or other places where you would like to substitute celery.

  6. Chives - The wonderful chive. You can't go wrong here. they are a cross between onions and garlic and are excellent on just about everything!

  7. Swiss Chard - One of my absolute favorite greens to saute' and wilt deeply. I love garlic, oil and salt and taking this amazingness and adding it to a bed of rice or quinoa and adding in different vegetables, some tofu (or meat) and then we love an asian peanut-based dressing and it's to die for.

  8. Salad Mix lettuce- A beautiful and soft/fluffy salad mix (with some arugula and flowers mixed in - YUM!). perfect for a salad base or even a bed of rice etc.

  9. Broccoli Greens - OH MY! We absolutely LOVE broccoli greens! Ever had collards? These are better! Cooked them and serve them the same way and you will be in heaven!

  10. Plants - There will be plenty of plants to choose as an item this week, even some garden varieties. Enjoy!

  11. Living Herbs - We have basil, chamomile, mint and a lot more!

  12. Red Russian Kale - Baby kale is always so tender! Sauté' it, eat it raw, add it to stews...there so much to do. Here are some ideas.

  13. Dill - An amazing aromatic herb that will remind you of pickles every time! but, did you know that dill is used in a lot of recipes? Check it out here.

  14. Dried Herbs - Basil, dill, mint and fennel (our herb room smells like heaven!😇).

  15. Radish Microgreens - Next to the barley grass and the sunshoots, radish microgreens are some of the most nutritiously-dense items we grow on the farm and not only that, but during our annual survey last year, they ranked as the #1 most requested and love item we grow! They have a fantastic bite to them, last considerably long in the refrigerator and are beautiful in appearance.

  16. Kohlrabi Greens - Stalk and all, these amazing greens are delicious! I love to eat them similar to collards, or broccoli greens, sautéed in butter with some garlic and salt, but they have a unique flavor that is very nice! Absolutely delicious greens!

  17. Pea Shoots - One of the most desired and sought after items we provide are these pea shoots! Quite literally the best you added to any dish or salad. Our favorite way is to add them to stews and soups. A perfect topper too! Here are four fun ways to use Pea Shoots: http://blog.bostonorganics.com/4-fun-ways-to-use-pea-shoots

  18. Beets - Absolutely stunning beets are coming this week! we have two kinds: Boldor (golden) and red baby beets. Both are delicious, but they have unique flavors. here are some recipes for GOLDEN BEETS. Here are some for RED BEETS.

  19. Broccoli Microgreens - Last week we told you that Radish Microgreens were the #1 most loved item we grow, well, these microgreens weren't on the list then! I have a sneaking suspicion that these microgreens are the real winners!

  20. Sunshoots - Our sunshoots are certainly some of the nicest, most high-quality sunshoots you will ever find (that actually goes for all our microgreens). They are one of the most beloved items we grow as well and a regular staple to our CSA. Here are some ideas to use your sunnies this week: https://www.martinsgardenacf.com/sunflower-shoots-recipes

That's it for this week! We love you to pieces, are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you and we are blessed to the core to be YOUR farmers!!
